Things to consider before moving into a new home
When moving into a new home, there are many things to think about. Below is a list of items that should be considered, but please note, various institutions have variations of this list.
1. Make sure all required purchase and mortgage documents are signed.
2. Arrange for the mover.
3. Arrange for schools.
4. Notify Utilities when to stop billing you at your present address and when to start service at you new home.
5. Get house insurance.
6. Arrange with the Post Office to redirect your mail.
7. Notify your RRSP fund, stockbrokers and banks of your change of address and order new cheques.
8. Send a change of address notification to all your credit card companies and notify any central credit card registry services.
9. Notify magazine and newspapers of your new address.
10. Notify the provincial health insurance plan and any private health care insurance providers you deal with about your change in address.
11. Have your address changed on the membership rosters of any organizations you belong to.
12. Remember to have auto insurance policies, driver's licenses and vehicle registrations revised. Plan the furniture placement for the rooms in your new house.
